Liraglutide is an acylated human glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonist with 97% amino acid sequence homology to human endogenous GLP-1 (7-37), which retains all the biological activity of GLP-1 and has a GLP-1 receptor agonistic effect. By expression of recombinant DNA in Saccharomyces cerevisiae, the molecular structure differs from that of the natural GLP-1 molecule by only one amino acid, and the structure is modified only in two parts of GLP-1 as follows: namely, the substitution of lysine at position 34 by arginine, and the addition of a glutamate-mediated 16-carbon palmitoyl fatty acid side chain to lysine at position 26.
